Day 3:

Students will define the Y intercept in math as well as translate it to a real world meaning.

The Y intercept in math is the point at which a line on a graph crosses through the Y axis (the vertical axis).  A real life meaning of a Y intercept could be a starting point for a company's profits.




Quiz


1. Using the equation y=3x-2 find the y intercept.
2. Using the equation y=2x+5 find the y intercept.
3. Using the equation y=5x-3 find the y intercept.


Answers 

1. For these problems all you need to do is take the last number in the y=mx+b equation, in this problem the number is -2, and that is your answer.
2. You do this problem the same way as the first, with the answer being 5.
3. You do this problem the same way as the first 2. the answer is -3.
